Network Installation Management and Support

Computer networks combine together PC workstations, servers, printers and other devices into a unified interconnected arrangement allowing users to communicate and share resources.

OSYS can test, service, design or install the specialist cabling and hardware to achieve this connectivity

The most important components are servers and these come in all shapes and sizes depending on their role in the business. The most common examples are:

File server – Stores your valuable data centrally allowing controlled access by users with varying levels of permissions. Because all the data is stored in one place it is easily checked for viruses, spyware, etc, and can be regularly backed up.

Mail server – Processes incoming and outgoing email through a single channel allowing the removal of viruses and spam before it gets to the user’s PC. Advanced versions can provide additional facilities such as shared calendars, webmail and smartphone support.

Terminal server – Sometimes referred to as an application server or remote desktop. In this environment software programs are run on the central server and not on each user’s PC which tend to act as ‘dumb’ terminals. One advantage is that the user’s desktop and the facilities that it can access are the same whether the PC is situated in the office or on the move.

Domain controller – This manages other servers and controls access in a multi-server environment.
