Software is then loaded on to the server to provide services such as file and email serving. Additional software is needed to provide, for example, anti-virus, anti-spam and web filtering. These different pieces of software need to be carefully chosen and maintained in order to work reliability together, and that is where problems begin. For instance, a single update on one piece of software could upset the operation of any of the other applications on the server. All of these individual components have been developed in isolation by different teams so together they may not operate as expected. The above functions are grouped into five service delivery options and the customer has a choice ranging from a single basic service offering firewalling, intrusion prevention and VPN, up to a full all-in-one business server with all five services. There is a simple charging structure consisting of a small setup charge and a monthly service charge which is dependent upon the service level chosen.
